Things To Do In Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi is a city with plenty of things to offer visitors. There are restaurants, night life and museums that you can explore while here! Many people often don’t know about all the other amazing attractions this destination has in store for them so we’ve compiled some info below on where they should go next time their crave traveling or just need something different than what’s at home.

Padre Island National Seashore

Padre Island National Seashore is located in Corpus Christi and it is the longest undeveloped barrier island in the world. This national seashore is home to various things including 150 species of birds, over 100 types of fish, gray whales that migrate here every winter season, four endangered wildflowers, sea turtles that can be seen laying eggs on the beaches between April and July, nesting areas for ospreys and even horned lizards! There are also things to do in this location such as beach combing (which you can go at anytime because there’s no time limit!) surfing (they have special staff members who instruct newbies) and fishing (you must get a permit though).

Texas State Aquarium

The Texas State Aquarium is home to over 10,000 aquatic animals from all around the world. The things to do here include things like feeding otters and stingrays, engaging in a dolphin presentation where you learn things about their behavior habits and even going on a jungle cruise that features sharks! Don’t forget that they have different events going on there too such as kids day which includes hands-on learning for families with kids 12 and under, sleepovers which includes behind the scenes tours, or even movie night.

USS Lexington

The USS Lexington Museum on the bay is located in Corpus Christi and is an aircraft carrier that operated from 1943 to 1991. It was also involved in things like Operation Magic Carpet (1946-47) which helped bring troops back home after World War II ended, served as a recovery vessel for both Gemini 6 and Gemini 7 (the first space flights outside of Earth’s atmosphere), it took part in things called “Yankee Station” which was where air strikes against Vietnam were launched, was involved with things called “Praying Mantis” which was essentially a response to Iranian attacks on oil tankers, supported Desert Storm operations in Iraq.

Mustang Island State Park

Mustang Island State Park is located in Corpus Christi and has things to do like hiking, swimming, fishing, birding, kayaking. It’s also home to things like the Malaquite Visitor Center which features things like exhibits, trails for walking or bicycling, restrooms and even picnic tables.

The Art Museum of South Texas

The Art Museum of South Texas is home to things like Mexican folk art from the 19th and 20th centuries, modern prints from Latin America, historical prints from the US Southwest, international contemporary prints and a lot more. You can then head over to their sculpture garden that has things like a walking path that shows different pieces of art, a plaza with sculptures in it and even an amphitheater.

South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center

South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center is home to things like trees, plants and flowers. It’s also located in Corpus Christi alongside things like the Arboretum (which has things like exhibits on the native plants), the Wetlands (which has things like an observation platform) and even an educational center (the Bramlage Learning Center).

Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History

Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History is home to things like exhibits about things like space, the history of the city and things like fossils. It’s also home to things like a gift shop and even a classroom where you can take classes and things on-site.

Hurricane Alley Waterpark

Hurricane Alley Waterpark has things like mushroom showers, a lazy river that goes around the whole place, wave pool where you can play with your friends or family, all sorts of slides (including one that’s 75 feet!), tube slides where you ride on inner tubes down them and two 18-hole mini golf courses!

Selena Memorial Statue

Selena Memorial Statue is located in Corpus Christi and features things like a 42-foot high statue of the late singer, Selena Quintanilla. The things to do here include things like taking photos with the statue, visiting the visitors center which has things like exhibits, learning things about Selena right there at the memorial itself or even attending one of their events that are hosted there.
